START WITH A SENSIBLE NUMBER
People, hours and how the event runs all matter. Use this starting estimate for a private gathering, then talk through the details with us.
Baseline: 1 portable toilet per 50 guests for up to 4 hours. For 100 guests, start by discussing 2 units. Longer events, alcohol, queues, children and limited indoor access can change the plan.
This is a discussion estimate, not an event permit calculation or a capacity guarantee. For public events, your approved restroom and accessibility plan controls.
Berkeley special-event requirements ↗ · ADA restroom guidance ↗
For one restroom cluster, discuss 1 accessible unit within this total where ADA rules apply. Review the layout and applicable rules.
100 guests ÷ 50 = 2 baseline units.
For this estimate, alcohol adds 1 unit for each 5 baseline units, rounded up; this is a planning allowance, not a code ratio. The access screen assumes all units are in one cluster and uses a 5% planning allowance where ADA rules apply; Berkeley’s public-event screen starts with at least 2 total toilets and uses 10% accessible, at least 1. Review multiple clusters separately and confirm the approved permit total. City application reference.
EQUIPMENT DECISIONS
| Option | Best fit | Washing & flushing | Check before booking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Working sites, casual gatherings | Usually non-flushing; separate handwashing | Placement and service access |
| Deluxe | Private events, compact sites | Sink and flushing vary by model | Exact features and refill arrangements |
| Accessible | Guests or workers needing accessible facilities | Confirm offered unit and sink configuration | Documented compliance and usable approach |
| Trailer | Weddings, hosted events | Typically flushing toilets and interior sinks | Tow access, footprint, steps/ramp, water and power |
| Handwashing | A separate wash point beside restrooms | Soap and water; not a toilet | Reachability, supplies and replenishment |
Amenities vary. Ask for the actual model details and photos with your quote.
THE WHOLE RENTAL
Share the address, dates and guest or crew count. Mention a narrow gate, hill, permit restriction or plumbing outage early.
Review the unit, total cost, service schedule, placement and written terms. A quote request alone does not reserve equipment.
Mark the placement, arrange access and keep a contact reachable. Confirm how to request collection and when billing ends.
