Give washing its own place in the plan
A separate station allows someone to wash while another person uses a restroom. That can help at a busy family gathering, outdoor worksite or business event. Ask about the number of basins, how the station operates and which consumables are supplied.
Hand sanitizer is not a substitute wherever soap-and-water washing is required. Tell us if food will be prepared or served, if workers handle contaminants, or if your permit specifies separate facilities. Food-vendor requirements may differ from guest restroom washing.
Capacity means more than a tank size
Confirm the fresh-water and wastewater capacities of the actual station, then agree on refill and emptying arrangements. Guest count, event duration and how often people wash affect usage. An interior sink in a deluxe unit may serve a different purpose from a multi-user station outside.
Construction washing requirements
California §1527 generally requires one washing station for each 20 employees or fraction, with adequate water, cleansing agents and individual drying supplies, subject to the section’s provisions. Have the site supervisor review the complete rule and any task-specific requirements. California construction washing requirements ↗
Accessible positioning matters
Keep the station close to the restroom area without narrowing the approach. Ask about reach, controls and a usable basin for people who need an accessible setup. Make sure replenishment access stays open after fences, tables or event equipment are installed.
For a Berkeley public event, review the City’s restroom and sink conditions and list the wash stations on your site plan. Confirm delivery and removal together so neither item is left behind when the venue closes.
